Manufacturing Industries in Tanzania Urged to improve Employer - Employee Relations

The Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) continues to enhance the skills of the manufacturing Industries in Tanzania as part of the capacity building initiative “Promotion of Manufacturing Industries Performance through Human Capacity Development”. The initiative is targeting around 245 participants from 200 SMEs in the manufacturing sector in Tanzania.  

As session on Human Resource Manual which attracted 32 participants from different manufacturing sectors such as Agro-processing, Technology and telecom, Food and Beverage, Leather and Leather products, Iron and Steel sector among others took place on the 17th to 18th June 2021.  The workshop aimed at guiding participants in recruitment, management and development of their employees while ensuring that the workers’ rights are catered for and the Tanzania national employment laws (Zanzibar & Mainland) are adhered to.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Director of CTI, Mr Leodegar Tenga stressed the need to enhance a positive employer-employee relationship in the manufacturing working environment. He added that, it is also important for the companies to design a Human Resource Handbook that contains the policies and procedures of the particular industry and communicate it to employees. Mr Tenga extended his warm gratitude to GIZ Business Scouts for Development; a German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded initiative for the continued collaboration in strengthening the manufacturing industries in Tanzania as well as exposing them to various opportunities that connect industries with Business Actors across the globe.   

Mr. Ashish Mistry the Chief Executive Officer of ALAF Tanzania Limited urged CTI to organize regular sessions similar to this to provide updates of labour laws and regulations. He added that “Many times, manufacturing industries faces HR elated challenges due to limited knowledge in labour laws. It is important for every manufacturing industries to have the Human Resource manual that will guide the relationship between employee and employer.
